A 4th of July Running Playlist for Independence Day

The fourth of July is coming this weekend in the US (and I guess it’s coming in the rest of the world too…:) and that means that it’s Independence Day. So what better than a running playlist full of patriotic and inspiring songs to get you in the mood?

This week’s running playlist is made of songs that are about freedom, independence or … wait for it… fireworks! I made sure these are all songs with a BPM of over 120, so you can actually run to them, and also included some diversity, even though country is more dominant in this playlist than it usually is.

This running playlist averages out at 131 BPM and is 48 minutes long. So go for a run, then have a beer and watch some fireworks to celebrate the birth of the USA and I’ll see you next week!

iTunes top 10 BPM analysis: Running Playlist 2011-28-06

Wow! Can you believe it’s the end of June already?! Time really flies I guess, and once again it’s time for another running playlist post about the top 10 songs on iTunes.

I’m always happy when country music enters the top 10 on iTunes, I like country and even though these songs are usually low BPM, it’s still nice to have a change in pace from the pop and hip-hop that’s usually there (nothing wrong with pop or hip-hop, I just like some diversity every now and then…)

I’ve been doing these lists for a while, and I noticed that in many cases, new singles appear on iTunes only and take a while to make it to other online stores. I’m sure it has something to do with all sorts of music industry contracts and stuff, but it really creates a monopoly of music for Apple and as much as I like Apple, I think the market would do better with some competition (like the free and $0.69 songs on Amazon).

Anyway…

10K Running Playlist at 140 BPM 2011-06-24

Last time we did a 130 BPM 10k running playlist and guess what’s coming this week… That’s right! a 140 BPM 10k running playlist!

Before we get to the playlist i just wanted to apologize for the issues I’ve been having with my comments system. I don’t know why, but the theme i’m using on this site seems to be disabling the comments. If apologize anyone out there who knows how to solve this, I’d really appreciate the info. So for now, I’m using a Facebook comments system that seems to be working fine.

Anyway, back to running playlists…

This list is 1:17 hours long, so it should easily last for a good 10k and averages out at 143 BPM. We’re definitely starting to get faster…

iTunes top 10 BPM analysis: Running Playlist 2011-21-06

We’re back with another iTunes top 10 analysis for running playlist.
This week, we have a few new songs in the top 10. First, Katy Perry is out with another really stupid song which I’m sure I’ll be humming in the shower at some point after it plays 100000 times on the radio and gets engraved in my brain. We also have Tonight Tonight, which is catchy but not really special and then we have Lighters [Explicit]. I’m still on the fence with this one. It has a lot of elements that I like and that remind me of some eminem songs, but it gets annoying at times, so we’ll see.

The Running Playlist app is free again!!!

running playlist iphone app

Those of you who’ve been following my app might be wondering what’s going on and why there are 2 running playlist apps in the iTunes app store.

Well, due to some bureaucratic issues, I had to resubmit the app to apple under a different account, so now there are 2 running playlist apps in the store.

Here’s what I’m going to do. Since a lot of you already got the first running playlist app that launched in march, I’m going to keep the 2nd app free so you can switch over. The first app will still be fully functional, but I can’t update it anymore so if you don’t get the new app now, you won’t have access to updates in the future.

But wait, there’s more. Since I launched the original app, I’ve been tweaking it and adding features, so if you get the new running playlist app, you’ll also have access to the new pace calculator and playlist recommendation engine. This new feature allows you to calculate your running pace, and recommends music that may help you go faster. This feature is new, so I’m still adding more content to it, but if you get the app now, you’ll have access to the updates later on for free.

The new running playlist app is called “Running playlist and pace calculator” in the app store, so get it now before the price goes back up again.

10K Running Playlist at 130 BPM

running playlist

The weekend is coming fast so it’s time for another 10k running playlist with a specific BPM range. This week, it’s a 130 BPM running playlist.

I’ve been listening to a lot of pop lately on the radio, so I think it influenced my song choice on this list, since it’s heavier on pop than usual, but I still tried to keep it interesting by mixing genres and also using pop songs from different time periods.

This list is 1:23 hours long, so plenty of time for a 10k run and averages at 134 BPM, so it won’t be hard at all to run with it.

10k Running Playlist at 120 BPM

running playlist

A new weekend is coming soon and the weather is getting nicer and nicer (at least in the northeast US), so it’s time for a new running playlist. This time, a 10k running playlist at 120 bpm. My 5k running playlist sorted by BPM was pretty successful, so now I’m going to do a 10k running playlist series by BPM.

I tried to keep this list as diverse as possible and it does have something for everyone, ranging from pop to dance to country.

This list is 1:21 hours long, so plenty of time for a 10k run and averages at 124 BPM, so it won’t be hard at all to run with it.
